Beorgwic
Beorgwic is the Ancient Arts Fellowship's annual interclub event, held over the October long weekend (2nd - 4th October 2010).
About Beorgwic
The previous years the event has been run, we have enjoyed enormous success, with around 150 people turning up to each event from over half a dozen different groups, with a high standard of equipment and combat, and over 40 fighters taking part each day.
Where is it located?
The event is run on Danelaw's property in the Southern Highlands, which is situated about 2 hrs drive from Sydney and 1.5 hrs from Canberra. On their excellent site we have built several buildings and improvements in a period style, and are adding to these every year.
Download PDF documents with detailed directions to the site from Canberra or from Sydney. (Adobe Reader required).
About the site
In a effort to make the central area as period looking as possible, we are moving the non-period camping area to newly cleared sites. On arrival please rendezvous with the site marshall if you need assistance finding the right spot to camp. Camping will be first in best dressed, please contact us at bw.site@aaf.org.au if you have concerns about fitting a large tent or group.
What goes on?
Fighting and Archery
The fighting is run under AAF standard interclub rules, and although there is no limit on the length of spears, those of excessive length will find it rather hard going in the forest. There is also a tournament run every year based on "counted blows".
On the Archery front there is always plenty happening - archery games and events for all ages and skill levels. Stave shoots, 'Harold's right eye' Hastings game, open range times and more.
For more information, please contact the AAF's Archery Marshall at archery@aaf.org.au.
Workshops
There are plenty of workshops to get involved in, from Viking Wire Weaving, to forging, and Roy's famous cider and mead workshop/tasting.
The activity timetable will be sent to those who have booked and will be posted here closer to the event. Please note the following: a) First in, first placed. We will let you know which workshop you are booked for; b) There is a limitation on numbers for most workshops, please do not apply for everything.
If you have a workshop you want to run or one you really, really want someone else to run, let us know. To help us plan resources and timetabling please contact bw.workshops@aaf.org.au or download the Beorgwic Workshop Form and return it to us as soon as possible (so that we can schedule it).
Feasts, Entertainment, Markets and Tavern
The AAF will be catering the evening feasts this year, the menu will be available closer to the event. There will also be simple kid's dinners provided before the feasts. If you have any questions about the catering, please contact bw.catering@aaf.org.au
The Market will be held over Saturday and Sunday lunchtime. Anyone and everyone who has something to sell is welcome – bring your goods and a blanket and we’ll provide the space to set up!
The Grumpy Wench tavern will be run again this year, with an additional hot drinks service over the weekend. The tavern will be dry (non alcoholic) during the day.
A Bardic competition will be held on Sunday night in the tavern; jokes, stories, music and interpretive dance all welcome. A prize will be sponsored by the Tavern.
Smoking Policy
For reasons of cleanliness and protecting the environment, smoking of butted cigarettes on site is PROHIBITED. Cigars, tobacco pipes and roll-your-owns are permitted. Please respect this policy, or you may be asked to leave.
See you there!
Beorgwic is an excellent re-enactment camping event with a wide range of activities for the whole family, as demonstrated by the good turnout of kids we get every year.
